Travel Tuesday: Hungarian Fruit Soup

July 05, 2016
We visited Budapest in June 2015, when summer was in full swelter, especially after rainy Hamburg. I was thrilled to find on our first day there, that the cold soups I'd heard about (gyümölcsleves) were more or less smoothies, eaten with a spoon.

I think I had it three times while I was there, two from the tiny shop above, and once below at a working class restaurant. The food was superb and cheap in Budapest (well, for the most part, I got a salad with blue cheese dressing which turned out to be mayonnaise with blue cheese crumbled on top), but I think the fruit soup stuck out to me the most.
