Travel Tuesday: the Aurochs of Copenhagen

August 23, 2016
Although they sound like something out of folklore and mythology aurochs really did exist. They were a type of very large cattle and an ancestor of modern domestic cows that went extinct in 1627, the last living in PolandThere have been attempts to "bring back" the aurochs by breeding similar species (the Spanish bull fighting bull is a relative) or even replicating its DNA.

This skeleton is in the National Museum of Denmark in Copenhagen, where we took refuge from the cold, rain and prices of Copenhagen.
